Armin Aeschbach, MD

Doctor Aeschbach is a founding member of the Spine & Pain Clinic (WSC). After studying medicine at the University of Basel, he began training as an anaesthetist and intensive care physician at the Cantonal Hospital of St. Gallen and the University Hospital of Basel. In 1991 he took over the management of the consultation hour for chronic pain patients at the University Hospital Basel and worked his way into this field with various stages at German, English and US-American pain clinics. From 1996 to 1999, he then undertook 3 years of clinical training as a Pain Fellow at the University Hospital of San Antonio, Texas and at the Cleveland Clinic, Ohio, USA.

In 2002 he joined the spine and pain group at the Hirslanden Clinic in Zurich. Together with Dr. Markus Rühli, he founded the Spine & Pain Clinic (WSC) in 2004, as the person responsible for interventional and conservative pain therapy. 2004 until today mandate as clinical consultant and trainer at the Rheumatology Clinic of the University Hospital Zurich, 1999-2020 clinical consultant, until 2004 head of the pain consultation at the University Hospital Basel, Department of Anaesthesia. Since 2016 consultant at the Cantonal Hospital Zug in Baar.

To date, doctor Aeschbach has worked for around 20 years, 2/3 as an independent pain specialist in the Spine & Pain Clinic (WSC), Hirslanden Clinic Zurich, and 1/3 in public clinics as a trainer of young doctors with an interest in the treatment of chronic pain. During this time he co-authored scientific publications and gave numerous public lectures.

In his work, doctor Aeschbach has always emphasised the necessary professional seriousness of interventional pain therapy, the indispensable interdisciplinary spirit, especially in spinal medicine, and empathy for pain patients.
